The more eyes the better! This week I have gotten as many people I can to look over my books writing, edit and help me make this book the best it can be! This process can be the most frustrating and daunting one but it is very worth it! Currently, as this is a school project through my art academy, I asked many of my teachers and parents to edit and tell me their thoughts! I know going into the future of writing, illustrating and publishing books that I will need find myself and pay for an editor to help me as not every author has a couple English teachers to help them out. The story really takes shape once edited and then I am truly able to start figuring out where all the words need to go on each of the pages. There are certain things to look out for and keep in mind when editing a children's book. You can't have very many words that children really wont understand without a quick explanation. A strong lesson or metaphor is usually needed is in the text! With my two books so far I have done them both as identity themed books. I have also found that when adding something a character says, it is really helpful to follow up with a verb/ action the character preforms to keep children engaged and thinking about the characters while they speak. Example, " "Follow Me!" Pitsi cries, diving into the icy cold water." Children are able to understand what Pitsi is saying and also imagine an action like diving while the dialog is being spoken. These next coming days I will be creating my cover and adding my now edited text to the pages. But don't be fooled! I know even my polished version of my text isn't perfect yet! I always find some minor errors along the Photoshop process! The editing process never truly ends.
